    '54 Wonderbar R&D

On my C1 weblog for the '54 car you'll find some shots of a '54 Wonderbar I just received from the States. I've found it on e-Bay and it was unsure if it was in playing condition (NOT). When the radio was hooked up at a 6V lab power supply nothing could be heard out of the radio and no current was drawn (as shown by the lab power supply). After opening the unit the right switch was clearly broken.

    See pictures at:
    http://www.c1registry.com/index.php?job=ShowWeblogs&wl_id=19&order=desc

    Questions:
    1) was is the function of the right switch (controlled by the outer ring of the knob).
    2) is there a replacement switch (or are any originals anywhere available)?
    3) is it correct that there is no lid on the bottom side of the radio or is it simply missing?

    thanks,
    Rob.
    Rob.

      Roy,

Thanks for the answers. One thing I don't understand. how is the radio switched on/off?

      greetings,
      Rob.

The left nob turns it on or off and you need the power pack connected to make it work. email me and will send a pic. my web page is down right now.

Rob, did you get the power supply and speaker unit with the radio as I didn't see it in the photos. The switch on the left hand side outer smaller shaft is the on/off switch. If you have the power supply there is an oscillator - a tall round can like device that you should be able to feel some small vibration in it. Hope this helps. Regards, Gary....

Does anyone have a schematic diagram for the '54 model electronically available for me?

            thanks,
            Rob

There is a power supply unit with the radio, I think it isn't working since I don't see any tube glow. I'm looking for a circuit diagram so I can start measuring voltages on the units and tubes to see what is, and what isn't working...

              greetings.

What I meant to say was, I don't see any tubes in the radio glowing. So I was wondering if the power unit was working. I measure 6V DC and 13V AC on two pins of the plug going into the power pack but without a circuit diagram I'm lost...

                  greetings,
                  Rob.

Rob, I have a 1956 wonderbar power pack and speaker, that I believe to be in good working condition. It's not a Corvette unit, but instead came out of a BelAir Chevy.
If you would like to borrow it for testing your radio, I'll ship it to you, and you're welcome to keep it as long as you need for testing. And yes, I know you're a long distance away. Just let me know after you see if you can get more advice, and better ways to test your '54 radio. Ridge.
