Part # needed for 64 heater motor

    Hi all,

I need the correct part number and possibly AIM page on the non-ac heater blower motor used for my 64 roadster please? Lastly are these units date coded for my year? The judging guide gives no reference.

    Thanks,
    Craig

In PRODUCTION, the heater blower motors were usually supplied as part of the case assembly.

The original part number for your motor was GM #5044555. This is a SERVICE part number, but the motor should be the same as that used in PRODUCTION. I don't know if the number actually stamped on the motor was 5044555, though.

Usually, they are date coded but I can't say that 1964, specifically, was date coded. Date codes are usually a month and year (e.g. 4 64 ).

Craig -- if it's like the '65s, no stamped #s are judged. The stamped # for '64 thru '66 (at least; maybe to '68) heater blower motors are 5044555 (as Joe L. has stated) and there is a date stamp. (see thumbnail pic of an eBay 3-65 dated unit) Usually these mounting flanges are pre-stamped except for the last 2 digits and the month digit of the month/year combo. My late '65 has a motor with NO last 2 digits [55] and NO month digit. (only [dash]65); somebody sleeping in Anderson IN.

The AIM is of no use, as the blower motor / case assembly (forward firewall) is a pre-assembled unit. The P&A30 parts books don't give a clue, as the # for the motor (only) w/o fan cage is 4914901, Gr 8.855, which doesn't appear anywhere on the unit.

Now if your '64 was a coupe (non-36gal) your rear blower motor would be 5044557. And if your car was C60, your blower motor would be stamped 5044559. (on the latter my early '65 air car has an yellow ink-stamped date, no punch stamped date; another eBay '559' purchase has no stamped date)

Well the part number is correct with my 64. I don't believe the date stamping started until the 65 production year. Mine has the same markings but also has 13.5V. No date stamp. Interesting.

        Thanks all,

        Craig

          Wayne,

I found out what happened with the blower motor part numbers, checked the TDB for confirmation and found your post. The original part number for my 1967 C60 blower motor (5044559, stamped in the flange) is listed in the Parts History Index of the '67 P&A:

          5044559 . . . MIX . . . 4914916 . . . 3-64

          also:
          5044555 . . . MIX . . . 4914901 . . . 3-64
          5044557 . . . MIX . . . 4914906 . . . 3-64

The 1964 P&A (October '63 printing) lists GM 5044559 this way:

          9.215 MOTOR ASSY.—BLOWER ASSY.—TRANSITION—TRANSITION ASSY.—HOSE—CASE ASSY.—LEVER ASSY.—WASHER, Air Conditioning Evaporator Blower
          64 . . . PASS., CORVETTE w/Custom Deluxe . . . . . . . . . . . . 5044559 . . . 1 . . . 23.50

The non-C60 blower motor (GM 5044555) is also listed, in Group 8.885.

So it seems that the original part numbers were mixed with (and eventually superseded to) GM 4914916 (with C60) and 4914901 (no C60) for SERVICE, but for PRODUCTION they kept using the parts stamped with the original "504" part numbers, at least through 12-66, the date stamped on mine.

64, # 179xx appeared to be the original blower motor, no date code
