    '69 gas filler neck orientation

Was the filler neck installed reandomly so that the word "VENTED" is not necessarily horizontal when the cap is tightened or was it installed so the cap always was oriented so the word "VENTED" reads left to right? I just installed a new tank and after I put the filler neck on and put the cap on I realized that the word is off center when tightened. I really didn't want to remove the neck and rotate it if It is not necessary. Thanks for your help.

I agree. Plus, if it was GM's intention that the filler neck be oriented in some particular way, the neck would have been indexed in some way and/or there would have been specific instructions in the AIM regarding orientation. No such indexing provisions and/or AIM instructions exist, though. Ergo, they were randomly installed.

        Oh, and to add,

the repro bolts for the filler neck are not entirely correct. If you have originals (usually identifiable by tiny letters in the recessed head face) I'd reuse them. I used the new black O-rings with the old bolts and it worked fine.

          Patrick:
Thanks for your reply. Not only do the repro bolts not have any markings, they are, again, way too bright zinc. I did exactly as you said: I re-used the originals with the o-rings that came on the new ones. See you in Novi.

            Joe:
As always, I thank you for your reponse. You saved me another half hour by confirming that I don't have to re position the assembly.
