Ignition Wiring - TI vs Standard

    Hi guys,

I have a '72 LT-1 that has a TI system installed on it and I am considering taking it out in favour of an original-type ignition and I have a question about the wiring.

The TI-system has it's own sub-harness that connects to the main harness on the inside of the left fender. If I take that out is there another sub-harness (or something) that get's plugged in there in it's place. Sorry if this is a dumb question but this is new territory for me and I've been comparing wiring diagrams from a '71 which has TI on the LT-1 with a diagram from a '72 and the answer isn't jumping off the page at me.

    TIA

    Scott,
There should be a harness that runs along the drivers side inner fender that you can remove. I think the only wires to reconnect for standard ignition are the 12 volt resistor wire from the ignition switch to the coil + terminal and the wire from the solenoid to the same coil + terminal, and of course the distributor wire to the - side of the coil.

Don't forget to change out the TI coil and keep all these parts together. Hopefully someone did not cut the resistor wire going to the coil+ and you will be OK.

Scott -- send me a PM with your snail mail address and I'll copy the 1969 or 1970 TI install instruction page from the AIM so you can see what the factory did (or was supposed to do) to install the K66 option. That will be no assurance that whoever installed it in your case followed the factory instructions, but it will give you some additional information to look at.

        Finally getting around to this....

What would the resistor wire look like and what voltage should it be feeding to coil +?

        Thanks again.
