I bought 4 galvanized bolts to replace the ones in the water pump as suggested but they seem to be going in a little tight. I don't want to force it. The old bolt goes in fine. The lower bolt below the generator bracket was an odd-ball bolt (14 mm). The others are 1/2 inch heads. They are 3/8 coarse thread. I bought the galvanized bolts at home depot and they are 5 in before cutting the heads off. Also, do I need to loosen up the motor mount bolts when I support the front of the block? I haven't done this in awhile.

Sorry John, You are correct, they are 9/16 but I had one odd-ball 14mm below the generator bracket. I had to break the right two bolts loose and take them out to clean up the heater hose nipple on the water pump. I could not get a wrench on the nipple with that lower bolt in the way. I'm not sure if the right side gasket came loose or not on the water pump. I would hate to have it leak. Ijust don't want to force the galvanized 3/8 bolt in.- Top

I'm not sure I completely understand you. But I'll offer the following.
1. Are the bolts 5 inches long? If so, they're bottoming out. I believe the bolts should be less than 2 inches long. One of the bolts is an odd length. It's not the usual 1 1/4, or 1 1/2, or 1 3/4. It's some odd size in between. Many people are fooled by this. The usual Corvette vendors will sell you bolt kits with the right size bolts. Go onto the Paragon web site and look up these bolts. I believe their description of the kit contains the bolt sizes.
2. Galvy bolts??? I never hear of that. Is that really necessary? 10s of millions of Chevrolets were built with ordinary steel bolts. Is it possible that the galvanize coating is interfering with snugging down the bolt?
3. Not sure what you need to do, if anything, with the motor mount. It's certainly a good idea to support the engine. Don't support it with a jack on the oil pan. But why don't you just replace 1 bolt at a time?
4. Not sure aof what year C1 you have, but I thought the water pump bolt beneath the generator bracket was a special stud. I can assure you it's not a metric headed bolt.- Top

Re: C-1 water pump-327 cu in
Mine is a 62 and only has the one odd-size bolt head. Galvanized bolts have a coating and it I only tried to one in and it starts to get tight after a couple of turns. I don't want to force it. I will go to O'Reilleys or Auto zone to see if they have the long ones. As I said in the beginning I'm afraid I may have broken the seal of the gaskets when I took out a bolt and I don't want to chance it leaking after I get the radiator and everything back together.- Top

Galvanized bolts from Home Depot are for dock building, not for Corvettes. Regular steel is fine, stainless would be extra fancy, but unnecessary. The galvanizing is causing your problem in assembly.- Top

Go to www.corvette-paragon.com. Look up their part number 963K. It'll show you a picture of exactly what you want. You want:
(1) special stud
(1) 2 3/4" bolt
(2) 1 7/8" bolts
All 3/8"-16 size.- Top

Re: C-1 water pump-327 cu in
Chris, I'm not looking for the original bolts. I'm going to pull the water pump off and replace the gaskets between the block/motor mount and motor mount/water pump. I was asking where do I get the longer bolts that you cut the head off of and cut a slot in the end for a screwdriver to replace the originals one-by-one and slide the pump off and then get the new gaskets in.- Top
