A great book called "Corvette; America's Sports Car by the Auto Editors of Consumer Guide copyright 1989, has a complete chapter on the development of the Corvette SS (Project XP-64). Great pictures and the complete history of the car. The car on Ebay ain't even a little bit close!

Looks like it sold for $70K. Pics have been added of the engine and chassis, which have to be seen to be believed. The big winner of this auction (other than the seller) is the 2nd high bidder!

I know so little about the SSR and mules in general. That said, years ago, I had a neighbor with a kit car, Fiberfab or something like that, on a VW chassis. The body quality on this thing isn't even as good as the POS that my neighbor had in his driveway. I certainly hope that the person who bought it who knew what he was buying and does a thorough inspection.

The first dummy that bid $70K withdrew his bid ("couldn't contact the seller"), and another dummy jumped in late with a $70K bid and bought it; hope he likes the rusty old C1 chassis for $70K.

I emailed the seller of the "SS" 3 times and asked about documentation, title info along with a few other questions. Never received a response. When he finally posted additional pictures I was amazed that anyone bid on the car. The 58 vintage Corvette has a 10 bolt GM rear end, a power brake booster and a bunch of other junk parts.
I can't believe that someone bid $70,000+ on the pile of junk.

May be interesting too see if either party posts feedback regarding the transaction. Feedback is not a guarantee that the deal was consumated. I'm going to hazard a guess that feedback isn't likely to result from this auction. I base that on watching for feedback following other auctions that had that eyebrow raising affect on the casual observer.

I have found that after making almost 800 Ebay transactions (mostly sales) that probably 90% of legitimate transactions result in feedback from both parties. I always leave it and always encourage people to do the same for me. It is not foolproof but it does help both the buyers and sellers.

I doubt very much that feedback will be left on the SS transaction.

The listing shows two cars. The car "in need" is a Centurion with the optional windshield and headrests. I will dig out my Fiber Fab catalog with the pricing and post it. The black car is being made now in England and was pulled from an original Centurion body and is currently marketed. I contacted the guy making them and have info (price, etc.) in my other computer. A year or so ago an article was done in I believe Vette on the black car. In the mid 60's a Centurion body was campaigned indrag racing as an altered or gasser. The original was truly a "kit".

We did a feature article on the black car in the July, 2007 issue of "Corvette Enthusiast" magazine.

I had a LONG conversation with the guy listing the auction about a month ago (he called me) and advised him how NOT to describe the car as a "long-lost experimental GM race car" when he re-listed it.
