65-66 steel JK wheel & tire help

Anyone have some good photos of the 63-64 wheel and the 65-66 wheel showing the differences. I just want to be sure I get the correct wheels. My 66 is a 11/24/65 car. What date should I be looking for ? Also any pictures of a white 66 roadster with a blackwalls ?

Thomas -- there's a fair amount of info in the archives (try a few of the selections at the bottom of this page)

For dates, I've seen 8_64 (the initial JK batch for '65s); this one is 3_65, I have another two with 11_65; there are others that I haven't removed the rubber yet. Remember (like expansion tank dating) KH didn't produce JK rims every month, so there will be dating gaps.

Now, for the differences, click on the thumbnail below the big pic. The annotated pic credits are to Tracy Crisler (I think). The main difference is the shape of the bell between the middle to the back of the rim (note the step with the JK, vs. the smooth slope for the '63-64 "K"s) Also, the '65-6 JKs don't have the three nubs to hold on the dog-dish hubcaps.

Wayne is correct. (thanks for the photo credit too) Here is a picture showing the face of a 65/6 wheel. You can see the wheel lacks the "bumps" on the center portion needed to retain a dog dish hubcap.

      Good luck with your search.

The wheels on my 1965 (3/65 build date) are all JK dated 3_65.

I have two 65-66 wheels dated 8 64. They still have the part number tags on them, which would indicate an over the counter transaction. Part number confirms that they are 65-66 Corvette steel wheels.

They are RIVETED construction! Never seen this before, and can't find anyone else that has either.

          Just another interesting Corvette situation.
