Joe I dug out my trusty note book . the starter i took out of my 65 BB was a rebuilt 7783 oa28 (60 buick 364 ci ) it is on loan in a friends 66 small block . So what kind of nose should I be looking for ? I have a 7247 in the basement I took out of wrong engine 63 years ago . and my 65 still has the correct flywheel. Or do I need to borrow my buick starter back to get the nose???????Bill

The 1107247 starter was originally used for 1964-67 passenger cars with 283 engine. I'm not sure what starter nose it was supplied with. However, even if it has the correct nose, keep in mind that the 1107247 is not a "high torque" starter. The original starter used for the 1965 L-78 was a "high torque" starter. While the 1107247, assuming it has the correct nose, will work for the L-78, it's not the best choice.
The nose you require for the starter to work with the L-78 stock flywheel will be an aluminum nose which has a "straight across" mounting bolts and uses a "long" and "short" bolt. A typical starter nose like the one you need is pictured below. Any starter nose you find configured like this one, will work perfectly for you.
If all else fails, getting what you need FUNCTIONALLY will be no problem. Just order a GM #10496870, aka Delco #323-364, and you'll have just what you need. It won't have the correct numbers on it, but it will have everything else you need and will function perfectly for your application.
Or, if you want to re-configure your 1107352, just find any old starter core with a nose like the one pictured (possibly, even the one you find on the 7247 starter you have) and use it as a donor for the nose you need.
You will need to use the fork from the same starter you get the nose from. Also, the armature that your 1107352 starter currently uses in conjunction with the cast iron nose may not be the right one when you change the nose. The one from the 1107247 starter won't be the right one, either, since it's a non- "high torque" starter.Attached FilesIn Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
