    Water pump

    What's the application for water pump #3856284, dated C225? Isn't it a 1965 water pump or 1975?

    Thanks,
    Scott

All 65 396 engines. This date is very early production.

This one was manufactured on March 22, 1965. The 3856284 casting was out-of-production long before 1975. The 3856284 was used for ALLl Mark IV big blocks across all Chevrolet car and truck lines from 1965 through 1968. It was also used on early 1969 Corvettes.

Thanks, Joe and Cecil. This was found on a 1970 LS-5 built in January 1970. Who knows why and how it got there. Now the owner will have to find an early 0960 to be correct. Bill Mock might have them for a price.

I'm sure it got there by being the core used for a rebuilt waterpump once installed as a replacement on this engine. This particular casting, although originally used for 1965-E1969 Corvettes, is 100% interchangeable and functional for L1969-74 Corvette big blocks. For 1971-74, a different shaft and hub is required, though.

However, it's not usable for any other Chevrolet model with big block after 1968.
