    1970 LS-5 oil pan

This has been probably discussed several times but I couldn't find anything in the archives. A friend is replacing their original LS-5 oil pan and finding a decent original replacement would be difficult. Does GM still sell these and, if so, under what part number? Any functional differences other than the reinforcements on the corners? Is the oil plug metric or will their original plug work? What gasket is the best to use and should a sealant be used?

    Thanks,
    Scott

GM #14091356. It's virtually identical to the original except for the corner reinforcements. These reinforcments can easily be purchased in reproduction; they don't need to be spot-welded on.

The oil pan plug is standard thread; the original plug will work fine, although the one that comes with the pan is identical in CONFIGURATION to the original.

The best gasket is Fel-Pro 1 piece #OS-30061T.

Thanks a bunch , Joe! The owners pulled the engine and are going to spiff it up right (I hope).
      You've owned your L-46 '69 since new? That's impressive.

I've owned it since new, but it's not an L-46. It is (was) (will be again) a 300 hp.
