Re: Jimmy was always tweaking his Vega

Jim worked the machine shop for a local parts store in Maine who all the racers in the area took their performance equipment to.

He was constantly getting performance parts at cost and "tweeking" his car.

He traded the Vega with some cash for a sweet 69 Camaro hossing a built up 427 with ladder bars.

That car ended his dragging days when after pulling a wicked wheely hole shot the car made a sudden left turn and barrel rolled about ten times according to witnesses.

It wasn't pretty, he was seriously busted up from it!

He should have stuck with the Vega.

The last I knew, that Vega was still in the area setting behind the other Dude's garage under a tarp.

It was a stout little beast.

      Re: Oil pressure question

About that oil pressure concern; my gauge was dripping onto my E-brake handle on my 63 340 hp many years back. As it was, it would scare the crap out of me when at idle stuck in traffic. One day I disconnected it and plugged it off at the block. I have a new gauge just waiting for a more ambitious day to pull back the cluster. But I'm in no hurry, and I've been living blissfully w/o it for these many years.

Re: Yeah, if they rupture, it's a real mess

I'm a gauge freak Stu. If I can't see what's going on all the time, I'd probably go into convulsions the first time I heard an engine noise I couldn't identify.

I'm probably going to also install a tee and run a backup gauge off of a tee fitting as well as the cockpit gauge. Makes life easier when your under the hood.

          Chuck;

Ya, I know. You are like my sons. Whenever they ride with me they say; "Dad, when are you going to put that new O.P. gauge in?" I guess they are kinda paranoid that way because they are both Airline Captains and some where along in their training someone told them to believe in their gauges (instruments). Of course, I don't hear them volunteering to do it for me, or help for that matter.

            Re: They never do

But I'll bet they wouldn't pull their hands back if you asked them to take it for a test spin thought would they?

Of course being pilots, they probably have all the latest electronic and high performance toys now don't they.......

Yes, you are right. They have one of those silly "Joy Sticks" on their left and a LCD screen in front of them. Not like the old days, but they trained with the hoods and later with the USAF where something went wrong on every flight that needed trouble shooting. The solution is still the same today on many things; however, just cycle a CB.

One boy is more a Corvette guy though. He grew up tolerating my tirades when we worked on my Vette together. He has a 78 P.C. that he just had Top Flighted at the winter meet here in FL last January.
