    Holley 2818 Date Question

There is a 2818 Carb on eBay but I question the date location. I thought the early '63's date code was on the other side? Can anyone explain or add creedance to this?
    Thanks,
    David

I don't know the correct answer on this carb, but I am very cautions in any sort of dealings with ebay seller mzetrcarb, also known as Chicago Corvette Supply.

I have personal knowledge of at least 2 people getting taken because he misrepresented items in ebay auctions. He eventually made right in both cases, but it took months.

      Hey Joel,
I have heard of their Negative reputation. I'm not buying, I am just inquiring about the date (302) location.
I thought the '63's to some cut off point that the date was located on the other side of air horn, then sometime in '64 ??? they moved in the the side where the p/n and 2818 is located (drivers side)
      Thanks,
      David

        David,

Don't know about the position of the date code on early 63's vs later Holley's.

But that carb looks like it has a painted dichromate finish on the pot metal. They just don't come out that even in finish, and have 3 to 4 different shades on the various parts. With real dichromate each potmetal part was colored at different times in a different coloring bath.

I've seen August and September '63 2818's with the date code by itself on the passenger side of the air horn, and November 2818's with the date code on the usual driver's side location.

Here's an unrestored 2818 (off a '64 L76) with carb assy. date of 3rd week of November '63, which jives with John H's observations. So whether that 302 eBay carb should be pass. or driver side date stamp is a toss-up.

Sorry I don't have an Aug / Sept carb to show. Does the '64 (&63) TIM&JG have anything to say ?

It's amazing to me that the vendor we're talking about here has almost EVERY Rare carb all dated just where you need it to be! I'm amazed, always wondered where these guys got all those original carbs and all those dates????

I'll second Joel's comment about buying from mzetrcarb. I did not have a good experience, and he only contacted me about the problem once I became hostile and threatening.

No magic involved - Holley makes periodic short runs of "vintage" carbs with no dates for specific resellers so the sellers can date them to customer requirements.
