    1968 Coupe shoulder belt

Have a 68 coupe with April 68 build date. Just received shoulder belts from Charlie Santorelli (great job, great communication and fast turn around; very pleased) who also provided the "pockets" to store the shoulder belts when not in use.

Per the AIM (p 128, #3) these pockets are screwed into the rug between the seats above the emergency brake console. The JG (p. 4) describes the placement of these pockets as "mounted on the bulkhead between the seats".

My question: the AIM/JG do not indicate how many inches above the emergency brake the pockets should be placed. It seems they should be about the height of your ribcage, but I wanted a definitive answer before we start drilling.

Checked the archives and didn't see this covered.

    Thanks.

Chuck - Don't forget that there is wiring and fiberoptic cables mounted on that bulkhead. As I recall, they run near the top of the bulkhead from driver's side to the middle, and then drop down to the console.

On my 68 coupe, the BOTTOM of the pocket is 2 3/4 inches above the console. The screw hole is approx 2 inches BELOW the top of the bulkhead. Since the carpet rolls over the top of the bulkhead, it was hard to get an exact measurement. My car has original carpets and pockets for the seatbelts.

Be careful drilling. The bit will roll the carpet thread. Make a cut first.
