My numbers matching car has AC 44N installed and they are black as my carb has been too rich and driven infrequently. I have resolved that and want to replace the plugs with AC 45. I have a new set of R45-S. Can I use those or do I need to have R45? I am concerned of course about the extended tip.

Re: R45 vs R45S for 1963 327 300hp
Good point. The thread title says '63 327/300. Maybe he has the long awaited proof that you can use a 3/4-inch reach plug in a flat-top piston small block without busting something.
For reference the C2 small block spark plug family is 14mm thread, 13/16" hex, 3/8-inch reach, gasketed seat.

Motor according to NCRS Judge Roy Robinson is a 327 300hp so after looking at the posts, I'll stay with the R45 if that is a little hotter plug than the 44N. Does that work? I wanted something one step hotter.- Top

Stanley,
The R45 would be one step hotter then R44 and should work fine for your 300 HP car.- Top

Re: R45 vs R45S for 1963 327 300hp
The original heat range spark plug for that engine was indeed an AC-44. (not AC-R44)
As others have mentioned, the 44N, or N series spark plugs, are long reach and were used in big blocks, not small block 327's.- Top
