    Re: Tank Sticker

That sounds like a real good reason why my Order Copy has no VIN. Thanks, Terry!

      John H.,
The 71 sheet I posted has 00/00/00 for the expected production date. Is this by any chance because the car was a Dealer order for stock and not a customer order?
      Regards,
      Alan

          Re: Tank Sticker

The job numbers were issued in blocks of 500 so in my case the hand written job number 176 matches my VIN of 3676 on my 1969. This number would also be good for 3176, 7176 & 4676. This number is written on the back side of the body behind the passanger seat area when viewed from under the rear of the car. Mine matches exactly but I hear from others that this number can be a few digits off. This Zone & Dealer is from Courtesy Chevrolet in San Jose CA. I assume that the lack of detail in the dates means that this was simply an initial dealer stock order for the 1969 model cars. Anybody know for sure?

Mike's note is interesting. If job numbers were issued in blocks of 500 in 1967, I'm off by 2 digits. My VIN ends in 752, my hand written number on the tank sticker is 250.

              Dave,

Don't get too hung up on this, as it is not unusual. In fact, it is probably more unusual to be exactly on the number (or the number + 500) than it is to be off by a few. Generally, this is only accurate +/- 3 or 5. As I understand it, cars could be pulled or added back into the line for a variety of reasons.

Sequence breaks occurred in the Paint Shop due to re-runs for solvent pops, seam repairs, etc. Once the body left the Paint Shop and was loaded on the Hard Trim Line, it was "locked" in physical sequence from there to the end of the Final Line.

So having a serial number of 2290 and a job number of 231A wouldn't be uncommon. And I understand that A = air conditioning am I correct wtih this?

The "A" is where? The Job # located on the rear facing bulkhead of the car we think means "Antenna" . We see this "A' on all L-88 cars, meaning an alert to the line not to install a radio, antenna, etc. Is your car a radio delete?

No, it has AM/FM and this car is optioned pretty well. The 231A was found on both inner doors and right front outer toe board along with the rear bulkhead.

St. Louis or A.O. Smith body?

The tank sticker is intact and very readable. There is no VIN number on the tank sticker, is there anything on the tank sticker that actually ties it to a given car?
                            David,

I offer this advice. Remove original tank, document tank sticker with digital pics and wrap/bag tank.

Replace with new (clean) repro tank. Preserve original tank with car.

                              It's a St. Louis Body. (S1096)
