C3 defroster vacuum actuator

Does anyone know how to remove the vacuum actuator from the defroster door located in the heater box? I am hoping that I don't have to remove the heater box to get the vacuum actuator off. I uploaded a picture of the old actuator that is still attached to the heater box to show you which actuator I am talking about.

The vacuum actuator is located under the dash on the drivers side. I had to take the center console off to get access to it. But I can't see how to disconnect the actuator from the defroster door lever.

I uploaded a picture of the new actuator that I need to install. The lever has a hole near the end that is connected somehow to the defroster door lever. Is the actuator riveted on to the defroster door lever?

Any help would be appriciated.

What, are you a contortionist? That is a good photo. I have the same dilemma. Had now 'cause I don't care to remove the box to get to that thing out.

Did you ever figure this one out? I have the same issue and it looked impossible without removing the entire unit. My acuator actually works in one direction, but not the other. I will most likely leave it alone as I only drive the car with the top down on sunny days.

I decided not to replace my actuator because of the difficulty in removing it.
