Hi - I am installing what I think is an original cable wiper system. The instructions I have are clear and understandable - but the cables just wont hook up to the transmission plate. The passenger side cables are too long, and on the drivers side they are too short! I am beginning to wonder if my transmission plate is correct. I cant see a part number on it, but see "1.14" stamped in the reel that holds the cables. On the underneath of the mount I see "88180-12" and "88167-11" On the top there are of patent numbers. Do I have the correct reel and mount? Help and Thanks

Re: C1 1959 Wiper System!
Mark,
Your wiper transmissions have internal clutches to allow for installation and adjustment. They operate by pushing down on the splined shaft from outside (wiper arms removed) and when released the slack will be taken up. Install the passenger side cables in the proper grooves and have an assistant push down and release the shaft until the cables are tight. Next have your assistant push down on the drivers side shaft while you apply tension to the cables and they should loosen up so you can install them. Then push down and release shaft until they are tight.
The above assumes that your transmissions are in good working order and not frozen. Rich- Top

Re: C1 1959 Wiper System!
Mark,
It helps to leave the center spindle loose (remove the bolts and nuts holding the spindle plate) until you've got it all hooked up. Then fasten the center plate and install your wiper motor on top of it...
Nevertheless the system is a pain in the but...

Rob.
