If anyone out there has a 1970-74 big block with stock-type exhuast manifolds, I am interested in the clearance that exists between the LEFT (i.e. driver) SIDE FORWARD exhaust pipe and the footwells. Photos would be excellent, too.

Re: Info Needed Re 1970-74 Big Block
Tom------
Thanks very much for responding. What I'm most interested in, though, is the clearance between the footwell and the forward, driver side exhaust pipe. Using the 70-74 left side manifold, GM #3969869, which should be the same as yours, I have a minimum clearance of about 11/16" at the very forward corner of the footwell. A 1/2" size, 3/8" drive socket just fits between the pipe and the footwell. I am posting some pictures below of the area I'm talking about.Attached FilesIn Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Info Needed Re 1970-74 Big Block
OK, I'm going to try posting another picture via the URL route and see what happens.
Note in the photo a 1/2" size, 3/8" drive standard socket just fits between the forward left side pipe and the footwell at the forward end of the footwell. A 3/4" size, 3/8" drive standard socket just fits between the forward left side exhaust pipe and the footwell at the rear of the footwell.
I am extremely interested in how the clearance at similar points on yours or any other 70-74 big blocks compares to that shown in this photo.Attached FilesIn Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Info Needed Re 1970-74 Big Block
Sorry Joe, that's all I have. The pictures are not of my car. As Alan pointed out, they're of Kevin Goodman's Bowtie 71 that he was kind enough to let me extensively photograph to help me put my '70 back together. I don't have a picture of the precise area you need.- Top

Joe,
I have a '74 LS4, 4 speed with replacement aluminized exhaust system from CC. I'll be out under the car on Saturday, getting it ready for the Northeast Chapter Meet this Sunday. Let me know if still need this information related to the exhaust/footwell clearances.

Yes, that would be great. As a matter of fact, this pipe seen in the photos I posted is actually a CC piece, so it will be a direct comparison. The CC piece is configured exactly like the GM original, so it should also demonstrate what the original clearance was. I'm not 100% sure, though, that the 74 footwells were the same as earlier but that's one of the things I'm trying to find out.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Info Needed Re 1970-74 Big Block
Joe,
In the two photos there are five (5) sockets, the clearance measurements of each socket from front to rear are as follows; 31/32", 1-3/16", 1-1/8", 1-1/16", 7/8". Note: the last socket measurement is up against the exhaust clamp and the first one is up against the front portion of the footwell that protrudes. Between this narrative and the photos, I hope you find it helpful. If you need anything else just let me know.
Ray
P.S. My first attempt at including photos...hope they come through ok.
