I can't wait any longer...I have to replace my exhaust on my small block 71, manual trans. The right side is being held by a wire right now becaue the pipes are not correct. It's not the original system. I have it narrowed to Allen's or Corv Central's aluminized system (but open to another vendor if someone has a good suggestion). I drive the car so I want something that won't rust, but I do plan to get it judged some day (very original car). I realize I will lose points.
The correct system for my car requires the muffler and secondary pipe to be welded, correct? The previous owner replaced the mufflers. They are great but they are not welded to the secondary pipe as the original configuration calls for. I can buy aluminized front and secondary pipes for $220 at Corv Central and reuse my mufflers (wrong config) OR I can buy a new system with the secondary pipe welded to the mufflers for another $100. Possibly sell my mufflers on ebay or something.
I'm going to take a points hit on the aluminized exhaust already. The $100 savings is not a big issue. How many extra points will I lose with the non-welded secondary pipe versus the correct welded secondar and muffler?
Thank you.
