Did 1960 270HP 2X4 WCFB carbs both have fuel bowl float adjustment screws (external). I hope this is clear. There were some 2X4 carbs on ebay recently, correct numbers but I was informed were not used on corvettes with 2x4, because they lacked these external screws. Supposedly, used on single carb engines only. What is correct. Anyone. Thanks DG

The very early C1 cars with 2x4 carbs had idle screws on both the front and rear carb. Then, the front carb's idle mixture screws were deleted for later era cars because the front carb is only active when the progressive throttle linkage engages it during heavy acceleration so there's no need to set an idle mixture.
If you go by the base plate, body and air horn numbers that're quoted in your copy of the JG book, you'll wind up with the correct items. BEWARE of sellers who have 'put together' carbs and can't quote all of the various numbers...- Top

Re: WCFB carbs
I worked on early 56 Vettes with side air idle screws, just like those found on Caddy El Dorados of the era. The primary butter flys were seated and you adjusted your idle speed with these air bleed screws. As that perhaps what you are referring to?- Top

The 2626S and 2627S WCFB's on my '57 270 had the screws on the driver's side of the main body castings, but they were just brass screws with gaskets (bowl plugs, if you will), with no "adjustment" function. Don't know about the WCFB's used on the 1960 270 (2613S front, 2614S rear), although they all used the same main body castings (0-049 or 0-1049), air horn casting (6-1299) and throttle body (1-1387B). Machining for the bowl plugs was probably a secondary operation to the same casting where required.Attached Files- Top

Re: WCFB carbs
I sent a reply to the "Twin AVS Carbs" thread hoping to get some interest in my comment on this one regarding the 56 Vette I used to work on that had Air Adjustment Bleed screws on the sides of the carbs, like the Caddy El Dorados. I wonder if anyone out their has this set up. The car I worked on was said to be a factory experimental car with a 301 or 307 C.I. engine. May not be legit, that's why I'm asking about the carbs. I used Caddies on my 57 292 drag car (B/S) with adapters in order to up my trap speed up by a couple MPH. They had 1-1/8" venturis all around (Primes and secondaries), and idled with air screws with both primaries opening together followed by both secondaries (2 stage). Made for some uncontrollable torque off the line.

Re: WCFB carbs
Roy's picture shows the screws I am refering to. There was a 2X4 setup on Ebay, one carb with these screws and the other had none. I was told the carburetor with the screws was wrong even though all the cast numbers were correct for a 60 270 HP. Was this setup another pieced together 2x4 or what gives? For the prices people are asking for these 2x4's I want to get it correct the first time. Thanks for your time. DG- Top
