Is there a sequence to the Flight Judging (i.e. local chapter to regional to national)? The reason I ask is the National prerequsite is a third flight prior to the National. Does it matter if the third flight is from a local chapter verses a regional? Thanks, Ted

The Third Flight may be at a Chapter or Regional event.

Re: Flight Judging Sequence Question
The other thing that enters into the picture is their are only so many slots for cars to be judged at the national. Cars going for their Duntov will be used to fill the slots before a car that is registered just for regular flight judging will be included. The reason for this is their is only one time a year you can get a Duntov award and those owners have had their car at two regionals or more to meet the requirements.Lyle

Re: Flight Judging Sequence Question
I'm not sure that's the 'logic' behind the requirement of a car being judged somewhere else with 3rd Flight or better before going to a National Convention, Lyle (limited number of slots). If it were, why not simply exclude 3rd Flight and 2nd Flight cars?
No, the number of cars judged at a National varies each year and the National Judging Chairman + his NTL staff try their best to accommodate ALL of the qualified cars that want to attend. Yes, there is a limit on how many cars judges will be asked to judge on a given day. But, that number can be 'juggled' by the definition of a 'Judging Division'.
If there are too many, say '67 cars, registered for a meet then make separate BB and SB Divisions for '67 and either double the number of working judges or separate the judging activities into two separate days. The club tries HARD not to turn away cars/owners qualified to have their cars judged....
My guess is the reason the pre-requisite exists is insure those cars being judged at a National Convention have actually been fired-up/run before they get to the judging field and that enough owner due diligence has been done so that the car has a snowball's chance at earning a Flight award....
There's a similar pre-requisite for cars attempting the Performance Verification. My hunch is who wants to sit in the passenger seat of a car that may never have been started/driven before going out on a live road test????- Top

Flight Judging Sequence Question
Clup & Others...
There were many times I thought the progression of Chapter, then Regional, then National judging made a lot of sense while climbing the ladder of NCRS judging. I still do...- Top

Re: Flight Judging Sequence Question
I agree with Dennis, Jack and Bill. Judging at the national with the usual full classes is hectic enough. Stopping to note what is wrong with things that are not typical factory production is very time consuming. At chapters and regionals, judges have more time to talk with the owners and explain things to them.- Top
