Help Needed in San Diego !!!

I am tring to help a friend. My Friend has a 1957 fuelie and the car is being restored. The car is all original. The air cleaner is missing. I have offered to help locate it but I have been getting a couple of different stories. One guy says the air cleaner is chrome. The other issue is I am not sure what it looks like. I have seen some ads with a side shot of the air cleaner. It looks to me like part of it bolts to the inner fender and thier is a tube/hose to the air intake/throddle body. Help in San Diego !!

there were two FI aircleaners used in 1957 corvettes, the first design being a chromed one piece cleaner(extremely rare and only used the first month or two of production) and the second design, a multi-piece cleaner--two chromed pieces and a replacable element. neither first nor second design bolted to the fender inner skits. they both attached to the air meter. repos of the second desing are available, some better than others. if yer buddy is gonna have the 57 judged NCRS, i'd look for an original.good luck, mike

Thanks Mike for the help!! There is a two car garage I will be searching through in hopes of finding the part. Thanks again. Do you know where I might get a better picture?

        David,
There were some special "air box" cars intended for racing that had the air intake molded into the left front inner fender. These, like the early air filters, are quite rare.

bernie is right on. airbox 57 didn't cross my mind when i responded. if its one of the 40+ airbox 57's its "air cleaner" is actually a fiberglass panel that attached to the left inner skirt. air was then directed from the air box to the air meter via a flex hose. let us know if the 57 is in fact an airbox critter.mike
