C1 carb return spring -250hp placement

Where should the front of the spring be attached? And where should the bracket be bolted? Is it on the intake bolt? The radiator hose and the temp sender are really close in this area.

Re: C1 carb return spring -250hp placement

    Hi John,

Interesting you ask as I was just looking at mine. Went to my 62 AIM, and also noticed in my Zip catalog there are 2 different ways for 61&62E or 62L. What year is yours? You didn't say. If 62, Early or Late?

61&62E is like mine for my early 62 250hp(RC) ...1st picture. I bought this a while ago to replace the incorrect thermo housing on my engine. The bracket is the same part used on my 59 2x4 setup(2 pcs). However I'm confused & not sure if it mounts on the themo housing, or on the intake bolt either. My 59 AIM shows spring connected to oil fill tube.

If you look at the same Zip part# CZ-749, it states 55-62.

62L is this one according to Zip http://tinyurl.com/5jcg39
which after 3-7-62 is the 3824300(I think), but was previously 3729808.

62 AIM(pictured) does not show "Early" flavor.

I currently have a very early '62. Back in '72, I bought a very late '62 (700 from the end). Both had their spring attachment on the piece of steel attached to the thermostat housing, as Rich showed in his first attachment picture.

Richard, Where did you get the bracket in the first picture?

In the 61-62 TIM&JG, page 55, 2nd paragraph under Linkage and springs, it spells out that there were three different "solutions" that GM used for this issue. They were not consistent in their approach to where the return spring anchored. For your April car, I would suggest that the bracket on top of the thermostat housing would be my first choice, with the bracket that bolts to the two intake manifold bolts as my second choice. Either should cause absolutely no problem when judging.

It came with the thermo housing......I bought via Ebay several months ago. Zip has the brackets too, and most other suppliers.
