    Carpet Installation

I just finished installing new carpet in the '63. What a difference! Thanks for all the help in the archives. I went with Al Knoch carpet but first I layed down Reflectix heat shielding. While I had all the old carpet out I took the time to replace the drain plugs and install a radio antenna cable which I had been missing. All in all I am very satisfied with the outcome however, I was suprised at how much t******* had to be done to achieve a proper fit. Thanks again.

    Randy,
I'm about to start installing the carpet in my 66 roadster. I hope I'm as happy with the end result. I am using carpet from Corvette America with heat shield and padding.

What did you use for your t*******? Did you use a simple utility knife? I'd appreciate hearing what technique you found most useful for t*******.

    Cheers

      Randy,

I'm thinking about doing my 1963... could certainly use it. Did you go with spray or brush on glue?? Did you replace the upper interior trim, like around the rear window, at the same time?

      Thanks,

      Joel

For the most part I used a regular utility knife and changed the blade once. I also had to use an exacto knife (scalpel) for the finer cuts like the jack cover bezel, dimmer switch, and gas pedal screw holes. Best advise for t******* is to use a black Sharpie leave a little excess. You can trim that with a good pair of scissors if need be.

          Joel,

I had the same question about the glue so I bought both. I used the entire can for the floor and rear areas and then used the brush on for the carpet-to-carpet adhesion. One bit of caution, I found the spray adhesive to set-up much quicker than the brush on so it is best to have the carpet in place then spray on the glue from end to middle and then do the other side. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
