    C-1 Steering Wheel restoraton

Getting ready to send the steering wheel of my '60 off for restoring and apparently there are two methods: (1) filling cracks with epoxy and painting and clear coating or (2) recasting the entire rim in colored plastic. Which is the "right way" to re-do the wheel for NCRS Top Flight judging? There's about a $350 difference in the costs I've been quoted. I want to do it the right way.

Generally, the filling and painting method doesn't leave the wheel with any grain on it. Either method would be acceptable for judging as long as it leaves the wheel in the same configuration as it was when it left St. Louis (which was with discernable grain around the entire circumference of the wheel).

Get a quote from Richard Dunhan dunco1959@sbcglobal.net Richard's a fellow NCRS member and his restored wheels do have graining in them and look very nice. Gary....

Thanks Gary. I'm in touch with Richard and all the previous threads praise his work highly to include the graining however I'm guessing that he uses the fill and paint method without recasting and I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to spend the extra bucks to have it recast so that it's done the way the factory did it to include the graining and circumfrential mold casting mark.
