Re: 65 fuel tank stencil ???
When I dropped my 64 tank, there was a huge stencil , black letters about 2" tall by 14" wide....."St. Louis"...I suspect it was the top tank on a stacked pallet and the city was stenciled for shipping purposes.Dino Lanno- Top

Re: 65 fuel tank stencil ???
This might not have been the case for 1964 production; maybe you've seen the pic at St.Louis of the stack of tanks (posted by Joe 930 ?), all with a black stencil.
I'm sure SOME of the '65s had them; just not ALL, or at leasst not all in July of '65.- Top

Re: 65 fuel tank stencil ???
Don,
Please go to the archives and put in "gas tank stencil" there is a thread with pictures of my gas tank (original 19,000 mile car) and John Hinkley has an excellent picture of gas tanks ready for shipment. Do it right once!!!!
If you need any pictures of any areas just ask.

Re: 65 fuel tank stencil ???
Donald --- My L78 is about 2000 cars after yours, and there was absolutely no sign of a stencil. I'm sure I was the first to ever remove its tank.

Also a lot of 63's that show no evidence of the stencil. I have no good explanation as to why all the tanks in the pile in the 64 pic. have the number and earlier/later did not.Last edited by Michael H.; April 12, 2008, 01:31 PM.- Top
