Bowling Green Plant Must not have had trash cans in 1989

Started installing new carpets in a 89 yesterday. When I pulled the floor tub carpets I found a suprising amount of trash. The drivers side had what appears to be adhesive backing paper for the tar strips they use, a couple rivet mandrels (painted in) and a floor plug that appears to be a miss. The plug looks like it missfired when they tried to install it. The passenger side tub had varios plastic bags and more adhesive paper. The carpet looks like it was in there since day one. Was this a common practice? (or did Brian Boswerth build this one) Eric

Pretty common to find garbage under the carpets. Always fun to see what you can find.

I can assure you I won't throw it out, but I suspect on this 89 driver the trash will live out it's days in a bag in a box on a shelf in my warehouse.... You know what they say "One man's trash is another man's trash saved in a bag in a box in a warehouse!!!"

When I took the carpets out of my 66, back in 1978, I found a Zippo lighter with LUCKY engraved on it. Guess it was for me, but not for him!!!

Did you find any loose change to help pay for the new carpet?

Obviously NOT done by that crack "restoration Assembly team" that worked for so many years at St Louis....you know, the guys who hit the "Stop The Line" emergency button when they needed more TR bolts....or when they discovered a hubcap where the fake two-bar did not point at the valve stem hole.......

I had a joint (marijuana cigarette) fall out from behind the speedo on my 68. Not sure if it was the previous owners or the remnants of a "coffee break" at the factory.

Loren, That was what I was thinking.. St Louis must have been similar to a clean room. Assembled by guys in white bubble suits. My father, while attending GMI in 55, once was asked to convert manual transmission floor boards to automatic floor boards at the Pontiac plant by welding plates over the extra pedal holes. He told them the really didn't know how to weld. They told him figure it out as you go..... He laughs about the first few he did. Now anytime I see a 55 Pontiac I want to check for my dad's work.... Apparently Pontiac didn't have bubble suits either....
