This is my first attempt to ask for help on replacing the front hardtop weatherstrip on my 61. I have removed the center chrome clip but it appears that I need to remove both chrome pieces on either side. How is this done and what will I face after this?

Re: 61 hardtop weatherstriping
You don't need to remove the stainless to replace the weatherstrip. It's held in place by the 9 special drive screws (rivets) and plates which are visable from the bottom. These drive screws have a course thread on the shaft and are driven into the holes with a small hammer. Removing the originals can be tricky but if you can get side cutters under the head they will generally pull out. You will then find a channel in the aluminum header that the weatherstrip fits into, use a little sealer here, push an awl through the rubber into the holes and insert a drive screw and plate into each hole. Glass Works or Corvette Central sell the screws and plates. Rich- Top

Re: 61 hardtop weatherstriping
Rich is right on. The issue with removing the front stainless pieces is a bit dicey--they snap on, and don't come off very easily. Many times someone wants them off to polish them--it's not easy to get them off without springing the front, so that there is obvious damage, minor, but nonetheless there. I've rmoved them by VERY patiently working them off with the blade of a igniiton points feeler gauge.- Top
