    Front grille for 1970

I am looking for a front grille for my 1970. I need the left grille. All I can find are grilles that fit 70-72, however 70 is unique. No screw holes, has studs on back. Any help?

    Thanks,
    Jim

    Jim,

I would recomend you call Piper's Corvette in Vermillion, Ill. Ask for their vintage parts division. Also call Paragon Corvettes in Michigan, again ask for their vintage parts dept. The same thing with Zip Products in Mechanicsville, VA. Also try Greenhoe's Corvettes in North Carolina.

If no luck or no leads, check with someone you know that can look at Bloomington Gold in June or Corvettes @ Carlisle in August. I know what you're in for, as I have owned 4 1970 LS-5 coupes.

If you have a grille with the studs broken off, I believe that Richard Fortier is repairing them. He advertises in the Driveline

70 grilles show up on ebay pretty often, but the nice ones usually go for pretty big bucks. I saw a single grille that was perfect go for $580.

Sure glad I bought two sets a few years ago. One set is on the car and the other for just-in-case.
Thanks, Dick Whittington, for the heads up on the repair person. I have seen several on eBay lately that have sheared off studs.

I heard ProTeam has a slew of them, but they're probably talking a grand a side. I was looking for a pair for my '70, and ProTeam was highly recommended. I thus ended my search and became perfectly happy with my '71 grilles.

Many years ago about 1972 I went to visit a friend in a hospital and parked along side a sidewalk, a legal parking area. I got out and saw a woman in a Ford pickup pull up beside a car two places up to back into the parking place in front of my 70. I was on the sidewalk about 10 feet in front of my 70 when I turned around and saw the woman put her pickups extended trailer hitch ball right into my passenger side grille. I went to the drivers side of the pickup and told her what she had just done. She said she didn't. I got a new grille from her, but it was not the smooth 70 style with studs like the original. Still driving my 70 with the wrong grille.

Let's see...we have a list for a left and a right and a set. If any of you know anyone who goes to Corvettes at Carlisle in August maybe they will locate what you need. I will contact Eddie Wasavage, aka Eddie Wass, and see if he has seen any in his Corvette parts travels and get back to you. It may take him awhile.

I've seen a couple of ads for chrome platers that say they can convert 71-72 style to 70.
Anyone seen what these look like?

If it isn't metal, and isn't rusted/corroded, Eddie probably wouldn't recognize it.

Hey, now...Eddie's found Melissa Neiman (1972 LS-5 convertible Top Flight) and me some very nice parts for very little money. Not metal parts though. He just hasn't found a way to get into the computer world. One has to be very descriptive over the telephone with him. Like when I was trying to describe what original 1970-1972 exhaust tips look like. I may have to mail him photos of stuff to put on the inside of his trailer.
