    Front Grill Moldings 1968/1969 vs 1970-72 ?

Wanted to ask if the R and L front chrome grill moldings are different in any way for 1968/1969 vs 1970-1972, ie. Length ? Mounting stud location ? Thanks as always..

    Greg,

The '68, '69 chrome mouldings that attach to the surrounding fiberglass grille opening probably have their attaching points in the same place as the 1 piece cast metal '70 to '72 grilles.

Its just that the center portion of the '68, '69 grilles are plastic and a separate piece from the chrome metal trim portion.

The moldings on the 68/69 cars have studs. The moldings on the 72 has screws I believe. They are not in the same locations.

Jim, speaking of the studs...what size speed nuts are used on them..for the life of me I cannot find a proper sized socket to remove them...Thanks

            Mine were 7/16.

But since I had a front end collision during the time I owned the car, they could have been replaced. Could be the case with yours as well. My car was my daily driver for the first five years after I bought it new.
I have not finished that part of my restoration yet. I have the right moldings now but I have not installed them.
The reason I know about the 71-72 moldings was that the repair shop put one of each on my car and I was not smart enough then to catch it.

              Jim,

For 70-72 the molding is integral to the entire grille, and not a separate piece like the 68-9 molding. How did the body shop ever install the moldings but not the whole 70-72 grille?
