Another current thread "1970 LS-7 engine" has a good discussion about the cancelled engine programs in 1970. It doesn't directly answer why there wasn't an LS-6 in 1970, but after learning about the myriad of cancelled big-block options, maybe Chevy thought they had their bases covered... then suddenly they were all cancelled and they didn't have time to certify LS-6 for Corvette. Many of the cancelled BB options had HP ratings higher than LS-6, so maybe LS-6 wasn't initially considered a Corvette engine?
