    56 Corvette balancer

    It appears that there are two different types of harmonic balancers for 56 Chevy engines. One type has the pulley riveted to it, and the other type has a bolt on pulley.

    What is the correct application for the two different types of balancers?

    From what I can tell, there were FOUR different balancers used for 1956 Chevrolet engines:

    1956 265 cid except 2X4 or A/C----GM #3711319--riveted pulley+balancer;

    1956 265 cid with A/C----GM #3719629---riveted 2 groove pulley+balancer;

    1956 265 cid with 2X4---GM #3712763--riveted pulley+balancer; also used for Corvette;

    1956 265 cid with 1 X 4 Corvette-only---GM #3717206---I don't know the configuration of this unit

      Thanks Joe. Now, any idea how to tell the difference between 3711319 and 3712763? Deep groove pulley perhaps?

        i'm guess the 319 is a shallow groove and the other a deep groove. mike

          Technically, it's the width of the groove. However, a wider groove also makes for a deeper groove. The GM #3711319 has a pulley with 3/8" wide groove; the GM #3712763 has a 1/2" wide groove.

            56 is the same as a 55 riveted pulley and not a deep belt design
