    1970 LT-1 (?) on eBay

Odd thing about this Corvette. In the 1970 Corvette Registry it is registered as a Cortez Silver LS-5 with Bright Blue interior in Burbank, Illinois. The auction shows it to be a white LT-1 NOM 350 with black interior in Madison, Wisconsin. I emailed the seller and asked if the VIN was verified before I read that the person is selling it for somone else and no emails.

    1970 Corvette Registry:
    VIN 194370S406168

Interesting. They aren't even the same color. Maybe there's a mistake somewhere. Whey would anyone fake an LT-1 with an LS-5 car? Are you interested in the car? There's a post from a couple of months ago discussing what to look for to verify a car as an LT-1. For starters, the eBay car has the wrong hood.

I think that someone just swapped the data plate. It's far easier and cheaper than swapping the motor and hood. It makes you wonder if the correct block might still live in the car.

Both cars were found on eBay, neither one has had the VIN verified. I'll bet that one of them had a number mistransposed into the eBay ad.

For as much as I can I assist Mike McCaul and Juliet Page find 1970 Corvettes to register in the 1970 Corvette Registry. I saw this one and checked to see if it was registered before I proceeded to send it to Mike. That's when I saw the differences. I am thinking that that the last four numbers of the VIN were transposed. There are just too many differences.

Just curious...is there a '69 registry? I googled it and didn't find anything.

It has over 500 '69s registered if it's regularly kept up to date. I wish more C-3 owners would become more actively involved in these.

What is the purpose of registering and how is the information provided used? Thanks

Great! Encourage more '69 owners to do the same. The registeries require a lot of work for the Web masters and mistresses. To my knowledge the 1970 one is the most extensive with content, data. and photos. It has over 1500 Corvettes. Mike McCaul and I are assisting Juliet Page, the originator and Web mistress. Mike, the more active than me, finds and enters the data and sends it to Juliet. I find unregistered 1970 Corvettes and forward them to Mike or send location/owner changes to Juliet on those already registered.

One of those questions that will elicit several opinions.
Think of the NCRS as a campus and Corvette registries, forums, and clubs as different buildings on the campus.
You joined the NCRS why? The answer is that it is also why Corvette owners join registries.
I had the same question in my mind before I joined a registry. There is a sense of belonging to a specific group where belonging to only one is not enough. Clubs have a wide range of members with a wide range of Corvettes eras. I don't belong to a Corvette club but should. Forums enable Corvette owners to share information specific to their era of Corvettes to buy/sell/trade their Corvettes and parts without the bid process that auctions have. I visit the Corvette Forum several times a day.
I can't speak for other registries but the 1970 Corvette Registry has a wealth of information. It is currently being expanded to fill it with more useful information. Juliet Page deserves a lot of credit for the wealth of information she has displayed on the 1970 Corvette Registry. Members provided the information for the most part.
But to get a better perspective of why one would want to join Corvette registries is to ask the people who started and maintain them.

I like what I am reading, but will this registry add to the authenticity of my car?

It might provide you with a resource base to authenticate the car YOURSELF. However, it won't "add to the authenticity" of the car as far as your period of ownership is concerned. Folks can "register" a "made-up" car just as easily as they can do so for an authentic example.

No, you have to think of it as a "civic responsibilty" similar to jury duty, but without the hassle. Collectively, society gains a lot from citizens serving jury duty, even when it's hard to see any benefit to the individual.

By providing your car's information as accurately as possible, you make a small contribution that helps to complete the mosaic portrait that uniquely describes Corvettes of the registry year. In the case of the 70 Registry, Juliet generously allows free access to anyone interested in finding where any given 70 Corvette fits in the matrix of information contributed by many. It helps the user to understand what VINs, engine options, colors, body styles, and other options shared virtually the same space on the same assembly line at the same point in time. It also makes you thoughtfully consider what became of all the VINs that are missing from the picture.

For me, kicking in my pittance of information was a small price to pay for the registry being as complete as possible and available to all. Your anonymity can be preserved if you prefer.

I bought a car that was already on the Registry ...tried to change the data over to reflect myself as the new owner but it has not changed yet. I verified info and sent a note to Juliet back in June but the change has yet to be reflected on the site.

It is a great resource site and I am sure takes a lot of time to maintain.
