    Help with thermostat housing ID...

I have this thermostat housing cast # 3958002 that I was trying to identify. It looks like a '660 withouth the tab for the spring.

Anybody have the resources to ID this one?

    Thanks,
    Steve

It's exactly what you surmise. It was a thermostat housing used in PRODUCTION from 1969-1970 as an alternative to the 3877660 for applications where no accelerator spring anchor was required. Although the anchor was not required for Corvette applications, I don't think any of the 3958002 housings were ever originally used for a Corvette.

In 1970, another thermostat housing nearly identical to the 3958002 was released, GM #3972128. I believe that this one has been seen, albeit rarely, on some original 70-72 Corvettes.

Neither the 3958002 nor the 3972128 were ever available in SERVICE; they were a PRODUCTION-only piece.
