    1956 Overheating

Hi, I am a new member of NCRS. I purchased my 1956 last summer. It is an original 1956 (#248) with a first design engine. I had a 56 when I was growing up and always wanted another and finally made the move. I am having a temp problem and was reading some of the past article relating to this problem. I measured the ohms at various temp and found the ohms range to be from 800 to 110. Can anyone tell me if this is normal and if not what size resister should I try?
    Thanks, Joe

    Re: 1956 Overheating

Joe, welcome to NCRS! Always glad to have another 56-7 NCRS member. Attached is a ZIP file with 2 documents from other NCRS members about temperature sendings. Hope the information is useful to you. Recommend using an IR temperature gun to check temps are the thermostat housing and radiator. It's a good aid in trouble shooting over heating. Also, if you don't know the radiator history it probably would be wise to remove it and have it cleaned. New thermostat is a good idea also. Personally I prefer the Robert Shaw style. Good luck, Gary....

      Re: 1956 Overheating

Gary, Thanks for your reply and the information. I used an IR gun and compaired the temp with the gauge and at 150 engine temp the gauge read between the 100 mark and the second mark(200 ohms), at 170 engine the gauge read at the second mark(160 ohms), then at 190 engine the gauge read at the fourth mark (200?)(110 ohms). You did a lot of work on this project and I believe your suggestion is the best way to go and that is to send it to Rick for calibration. Once again, thanks for your help, Joe
