    Knock-Off Wheel Date Codes

Can someone explain the Kelsey Hayes date codes on knock-off wheels? My spare K-H wheel is coded C 4 27 65 and the letter F inside a square that looked like it was cast with the wheel. What does the letter before and after the numbers mean? I assume the numbers are the typical month day and year date coding?

    Thanks,

    James West

James -- are you sure that "F" is not stamped ? Here's my '66; note in the upper left corner of the KH D-49985 cast oval "cartouche"; you'll see a small stamped "T". Checked 2 wheels out of my set of 5 (the others are too hard to dig out) and they both have this stamp. I suspect it's an inspector's marking.

    As to the "C", I believe it's the work shift. I've seen B, C and D.

      Wayne,

After taking a closer look, you are correct in that the "F" inside the square is stamped into the wheel. I'd still like to know what it means. I never really gave a thought to the A, B, and C letters stamped before the date code would/could be the shift in which it was produced given the low volume of knock-off equipped cars.

      Thanks,

Here's an eBay auction (now ended) by board member John M. Incredibly, dates appear same as your example, but no "F" in square. Good pic of those small stamped "T"s [two of them, even !] in the upper corners of the cartouche.
