    C-3, 1970 coupe quarter panels

Being unfamiliar with the 1970 coupe quarter panels were they the same as 1969? The 1970 coupes had factory shoulder harnesses so did the quarter panels have two pieces on each side, the right and left main quarter panels and two extensions? Or were they each one piece units with shoulder harness cutouts? My 1970 convertible has once piece panels with cutouts for the shoulder harnesses.

    Thanks,
    Scott

Are you talking about the quarter panel, or the sail panel? The quarter panel is just the exterior surface of the rear fender.

if you are talking about the quarter trim pannel or the dog leg trim they are not the same. if you are talking about the quarter panel they are not the same either.

I don't think the exterior quarter panels (body) ever had shoulder belts going through them. Sail panels are those wing like panels located about head high on either side of coupes and convertible tops and I don't recall shoulder belts ever going through those on the early C-3s. I've only known them to be called interior quarter panels located behind the seats where the shoulder harnesses are located on 1970 Corvettes. Sorry I don''t have specific GM part numbers with a group number. Is there a another name they should be called? Here are some examples:

those are quarter trim panels. some people call them dog leg panels. quarter panels are on the outside of the car. maybe the last pic with a part missing. 70 trim panels should have a square box attached to them that the seat belt goes threw. the box is about 10"w x 4"t. do you need one side or both? those are not hard to come by but the convertible ones are tough to find. i might have some of those for a coupe. they look like this. or at least close to this

Thanks, Mike. Semantics, semantics. And I have had great difficulties posting photos here so I rely on other Web links. Carl Droste, who has written an article for the Restorer coming up soon, has a 1970 LS-5 coupe resurrected from a fire. He needs the quarter trim panels and the extensions. I'm learning that the two are not a single one-piece unit but separate pieces. His interior is black I believe.
I know how difficult nice convertible trim panels with shoulder belt cutouts are to find. A damaged one went for under $12 on eBay and I already have a damaged one on my '70 convertible so I need the passenger's side. Yep, I have one of those few 1970 convertibles with factory shoulder belts.
I would be interested in finding Carl a complete set for his '70 coupe. Feel free to email me at ss396t6@sbcglobal.net.

ok, you got my curiousity up so i went and looked at what i had. the box in the last post is 68-69. i got that pic on ebay. this is out of a 70 coupe. the seatbelt box is much smaller on the 70 up.

Mike, I just saw your avatar Corvette. Do you still own the '57 red triple crown fuelie, '70 red LT-1 convertible, '72 red LT-1 converttible, and the
'86 yellow top flight Indy Pace Car? My retiring Corvette mechanic has a '58 I so want. I sure like those straight axel Corvettes and my '70 LS-5 convertible.
Thanks very much for the information and photos of the correct panels. I am going to forward them to Carl and you two can discuss the panels. I first saw him and his Corvette in Waco and then learned of his story through The Tailpipe, a Texas NCRS Chapter publication.
