54 carb jetting

My 54 carbs have been adjusted for idle mixture to the point where the engine runs very smooth. My only problem is that they appear to run very rich.

I have pulled the plugs after going on a 20 mile run at 55 plus mph and found them all to appear very black (and my mileage REALLY STINKS!).

Is there a way to re-jet these little carbs? They have all been completely restored and rebuilt. Any other suggestions?

You can bend the tangs that hold the metering rods. This will place the tapered rods further into the jets, decreasing the amount of gas.

Look at the adjustment sheet that came with the YH carbs. It'll tell you how to do it.
