I'm looking at a shifter and trying to determine if it is correct for my 67 or not. I found some posts in the archives on this topic which makes me believe this one is wrong for my car. In a post it said the 64-67 shifter was 7 1/2" long from top of thread to center of through hole. And the C-3 shifter is 8 1/2" long. Can someone confirm this for me? I see a number on the bottom of the shifter and it looks like 38(6)336(5). The third and seventh numbers are very hard to read. The third number could be a 5. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

The easiest way to differentiate the 64-67 shifter from the later C3 shifters is the configuration of the shifter lever at the base. Look at the intersection of the rectangular base of the lever where the round shaft is welded on. On the 64-67 shifter, the rectangular base and the shaft are virtually "inline". On the 68+ shifters, the base and the shaft are "angled". The attached crude drawing illustrates what I'm talking about.Attached FilesIn Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
