    C1 Carpet restoration

    Hi Boys & Girls,
My 58 carpet is disintergrating. It got to the point that I was getting flecks of particles in my eyes, while driving. I took it out & have been sending a sample of it to different carpet resoration places, unless it's a Persain carpet they don't want to be bothered. Who knows someone who deals in this type of work ? I need a charcoal one. I don't care if it's oxidized to the greenish color, but I would like to get it restored or find one that is useable. Any info anyone can provide will be very appreciated.

I am doing a restoration on a 1958, also with a charcoal interior. I decided to use Al Knoch brand for all the interior parts. Check their Web site. Corvette Central also handles that brand but you need to make sure that is the brand you are getting if you place an order. Because the 58 material pattern is one of a kind and charcoal is a one year color every interior supplier doesn't make 1958 stuff.

I have already replaced the carpet I got from Al. But you would think in this day & age with new technology they would be able to resore a carpet from an old car. I have a 2nd set that I am going to spray with a little water set it outside in the nice 110 degree Arizona summer. Maybe I can at least get it to oxidize to that cool green color. I know you think i'm nutz, but I like the old carpet color . I will let you know how things turn out. The sun out here should age it pretty quick. Thank you for your input.

My experience with my 62 is that the reproduction carpet is the correct olive/black when new, but as it is exposed to the sun (I drive mine every nice day I can in Wisconsin) that it fades to a bown/black rather than to the olive/black that my unrestored original 62 is like. I know that 58 is different, but I wouldn't presume that the reproduction will age the same way.
