What fuel mileage would one expect from '67 327/300HP car with 3:36 gearing assuming conservative driving - city? steady state 60 to 70MPH?

Hi Bob. My first answer is "WHO CARES" it's a 67. But on a realistic note on my 67 with the 350 hp, 13 city, 19 hiway, BUT I get into it a bit, so those #'s might be a little higher with conservative use. Hope that helps, Bill.

Thanks, guys - we're planning a road trip with this car, and since my gas gauge is a bit inconsistent, it might be better to refuel based on trip mileage. Seems like I should be able to get 180 to 200 miles on a full tank and still have some reserve.

I have a 67/327/300 with a 3.08 (since 68). When it was new, on a long trip (NY to CA 1969), it would average around 20 mpg.

I now have it in perfect tune and keep track on long trips (like N Cal to Flagstaff, AZ). The best I've gotten lately with 91 gas here in CA is 17.5 mpg. And that's pushing it with an average speed of 65 mph over 1400 miles.

I think if held it down to 55 mph, I'd probably get back to 20 mpg (but wouldn't have any fun). If you are just taking short trips and playing with it, you would be lucky to get past 10 mpg. Just keep the rpms between 2500 to 3000, and you will be getting the best you can get in fuel economy.

But I can still beat the pants off a Honda, if the starting speed is 65 mph.

A good way to improve fuel economy is to get the centrifugal advance in as fast as possible. The '67 300 HP centrifugal advance is lazy and it can probably be made considerably more aggressive without getting into detonation.

My '63 340 HP got mid teens in town and low 20s highway - CR trans and 3.08 axle with all the centrifugal in at 2350.

The best I ever got was an averge of 21mpg with my 70 350/300 turbo 400 and 3:08 driving from San Diego to Dallas in 1975. Don't remember, but if the highway speed limit was 55 then I drove 60 with full time airconditioning.
