    In another thread

    Joe Lucia wrties

"Keep in mind that if you media blast to clean them up, it will somewhat change the appearance of the spring material compared to when it was new."

    QUESTION:

what method of restoration gets you back to clean metal and does not change the appearance?

    thanks! - stephen

Even commercially available shot-blasting will not create a finish just like the original. However, it will be closer than just about anything else you can do. In fact, quite some time ago I shot-blasted some coil springs in the shot blaster at a friend's shop. I didn't need the springs, I just did it to see how they would come out. They were ok, but not really just like original finish. The shot size used in the original manufacturing operation may have been different or there may have been other reasons that the original finish was different.
