C2 63 Windshield header molding

I am redoing my interior of my 63 SWC black with black interior. I am not sure what is going on with the top windshield header molding, the piece that the rear view mirror bracket mounts to. This is a November car and as close as I can tell it looks original.
This trim color matched all the other molding, a dull or semi gloss black. As you can see in the photo attached, this piece is polished stainless painted black.
Should it be black or stainless?

Tom,
I will double check my November built SWC when I get home but it looks like someone took a convertable moulding and painted it black, I would imagine it's the same size.

It appears that I have quite a few of the trim parts in stainless once I
stripped them. The piece in question was definately polished at some time
in it's life.

I just finished detailing the interior of my SWC and the trim piece you mention was definitely not polished on my car under the finished paint. Can only surmise that you have a convertibe trim piece as others have suggested

Thanks for the help. The stainless pieces probabaly are for a convertable.
They are all going back in flat black.

The piece in question didn't want to come out without some WD-40. The
screws were rusted in. Frame is ok though, not much rust around the top of the windshield frame. I don't know if maybe he factory did one of those were short on coupe parts things. In any case, I'll be hitting the swap meets looking for parts. I'll use what I have for now to get the interior back together.

I have the same molding on my Feb. 63 Coup, it seams to fit well. I also had a hard time with the screws. I blasted mine so that paint will stick.

Tom,
I have some interior moldings that are scratched in my mid-May coupe and they appear to be stainless under the paint.
