Re: 65 thru 74 big block
There were actually 3 pick-up screens used in PRODUCTION over the 65-74 period for non-HD Corvette big blocks. 1965-E67 used GM #3860366. L1967-68 used GM #3904834. 1969-74 used GM #3955282 and this unit also became SERVICE for L67-68. In August, 1982 the GM #3955282 was discontinued and replaced by GM #6269895.
So, if you are talking about a L1967 through 1974 Corvette big block, except HD, either of the pick-up screens you have should work even though they are different in configuration. However, for 69-74, the 3955282 would be the exact original replacement. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 65 thru 74 big block
Actually, just about any 1967 Corvette big block could use either of the oil pick-up screens you have (excepting, POSSIBLY, very early 1967). The term "heavy duty" (i.e. "HD") applies only to L-88 and ZL-1. However, for 1967 and 1968, L-88's used the same oil pick-up screen as all other Corvette big blocks.
For 1969, things changed. All 1969 Corvette big block EXCEPT L-88 and ZL-1 used screen GM #3955282, which also became SERVICE for ALL L67-68. 1969 L-88 and ZL-1 used oil pumps with factory-attached screens. However, the oil pumps and the screens were different between the two. The 1969 L-88 pump was a standard volume, high pressure unit. The screen used with it was a special, rather odd configuration. It was very simple, though.
ZL-1 used a high volume, high pressure pump. The screen used with it is a more-or-less traditional style big block screenIn Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
