    The 'A' on jacks

I know that the 'A' is or was the manufacturer of many Corvette jacks. What is the actual name of that company? Is it still in operation? Has there ever been an article in the Restorer about the jacks?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Ausco. It has either closed or been purchased by another manufacturer.

AUSCO is the acronym for Automotive Specialties Company. That old-time company went bankrupt some time in the 90's and its assets, including its name, were purchased by another company that I've forgotten the name of. However, the new company continued to use the AUSCO name and, as far as I know, it's still in business today. They sold off their jack manufacturing business some time ago, though, and I don't know what company bought that.

If you are really interested you could probably get more information with a Google search

Doing the searches now. Joe, could the company be called U. S. Jacks or Blackhawk?

Although I once knew the name of the company that purchased AUSCO, I don't think I ever knew the name of the company that they sold the jack business to. I saw all of this in Automotive News long ago.

I did this search once too. A long time ago. I believe the name of the company you're looking for is NORCO. NORCO today makes many jacks. One of which is a scissors jack that looks very much like the C1 jack. I forget how I came to determine that NORCO was the successor company to AUSCO. It was about 10 years ago I did this search. It may have been that, at the time, NORCO had the same address as the old AUSCO plant. Not sure, though.

                Hi Scott,

To answer your question about relevant articles in the Restorer, per my 1965 edition of the Corvette Restorer on CD (from 2005), the following are listed as applying to '63-'67:

                1963-67 Jacks (Winter '85)
Reproduce your own Sting Ray Jack (Summer '83)

                Hope this is helpful.

                Louis
