    C2 Rear Tail light Wicks

Can someone please tell me or show me a picture of how the tail light wicks are supposed to be installed? Got dinged on the last judging meet and would like to get it right this time.

    Thanks,
    Craig Willetts

wicks should be VISIBLE when you look into the indention of the lens - you probably had them "sticking out"????

Standard equipment on all horse driven Vettes supplied to Amish country. They light them at night to make sure that they can be seen from behind, right? I'm with David. What are they???

They're small discs of a white fibre material (not unlike cigarette filter material) that cover a drain hole at the bottom of the lens to permit water/moisture that seeps into the housing or condenses in the housing to escape without allowing additional moisture in. Similar "wicks" can be found on early Pontiac hood-mounted tachometers--famous for fogging-up after the car is parked outside overnight.

in the rear tail lights "Wicks" take the moisture out of the tailight housing, and looks kinda like a cigarette filter without the paper on it.

check the following ZIP link for a pix:

              Thanks Grant and Rick....

That Zip web address didn't work for me, but after looking around I found and hopefully this one will work.

They look exactly like a cigarette filter. Why couldn't one use cig filter instead of spending so much?
I can find these laying on the ground all over the place.
Are they different size or material?

Could someone provide a picture of how they are installed? The zip picture didn't provide what is needed.

                Thanks,
                Craig

                  Craig,

am at work, but may be able to get pix tonite - look at this lens cover and you will see the cutout at the bottom - you place the wick so the bottom portion of the wick when stood up behind the lens will be visible in the cutout - hope this explanation helps

Craig, remove the tail light lens and look for the tiny semi-circular cutout or hole on the bottom side of the lens. You simply push the wick into the cutout/hole such that it's flush with the outside surface and re-install the lens....

i seem to recall asking the past national judging chairman, years ago, for one of his Vantages to fashion a wick for a midyear that was wick-less. the cig filter was judged without deductions. i beliueve the midyear was being shown by a cheapskate Marylander.mike

I preferred Marlboro for my wicks, just one of those little tricks that some of us learn from the best.

Here are a few shots from one of my nos(service replacement) 61-62 tail lights. Maybe one of those newfangled "micro" cigs I've seen some of the ladies puff on may be a better fit....Rich
