    '62 ignition switch judging question?

    Hi,
I read in the '62 JG that the ignition key should not be removable when the switch is at OFF, but I am not clear about when in the START position? During judging, is an attempt made to remove the key while cranking?

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Paul,
No, it is not removed during starting.

But it will be for PV.

        Hi Joel,
Please excuse my ignorance, but what is PV?

        Thanks,

        Paul

Sorry, PV is Performance Verification. It is an award separate from flight judging. Sort of a more comprehensive ops check if you will.

Another form of award/recogniton beyond Flight judging is Performance Verification. Think of the first award as a 'looks good' competition while the second is a 'and it actually works' scrutiny.

PV is a prerequisite for the MoE (Mark of Excellence) award, the highest yardstick in Corvettedom for restored cars...

The key removal will not be required during starting as part of a PV. The key removal (or lack thereof) will be checked in the other positions during PV and depending on the experience of the judge it most likely will be checked during Operations judging. Best thing to do is to contact the Team Leader for a clarification. He is Dave Heitzman and his contact information is on the Contacts page.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm still not sure if the key should or should not be removable at the START position, but if I understand correctly, attempting to remove it while starting would never be tried during flight or any other NCRS judging? I'll contact Dave Heitzman to confirm.

All '58-'60 ignition switches are designed so the key can be removed at any position (including "start") So I am fairly sure that the same applies to a '62.....

According to the JG, on the '62 you should not be able to remove the key when in the OFF position.
I emailed Dave, we'll see what he comes back with on the START thing.

Not that I know much about 1962 Corvettes other than I'd like several, if I were judging OPS on '62s like we judge OPS on '67s, and the JG called for the key to be non-removable in other than OFF or LOCK ignition switch positions, you can bet that it would be checked. A similar check is the neutral safety switch and starting the car. We check them in OPS judging.
