    C2 Electrical System Check-out

    Members,
After a 4+ year restoration, it is almost time to connect the battery and start the engine. Can someone direct me to an article that deals with checking out the electrical system for potential problems after a complete restoration.

I hesitate to just cross my fingers and connect the battery teminals. Smoke and melted wiring are not an option at this point.

    All replies are appreciated.

Sounds a lot like my '67 restoration. First, I know nothing about electrical systems, period.

What you might wish to do is compare the harness instalation against a good colored electrical wiring diagram. Verify all connections as you proceed through the check to be sure connections are secure and tight. (Loose connections cause arcs.) Verify your distrubuter is set properly, not 180 degrees. Check starter bolts for tightness. Check all belts and coolant fluid. Check fuel level. Verify oil level and filter installation. Prime the carburetor/fuel system. Connect to the battery and start her up.
    Have fun.

I wouldnt worry about it too much. Just touch the cable to the post for a second and watch for the spark. except for the clock, it shouldnt draw anything. If all you see is the clock surge, it will be ok, and you can leave it hooked up. You can also use an inline amp meter to see whats going on.
