    1966 427 390 wiring Joe Lucia

    Hi Joe
I replaced the ballast resistor and the ignition switch and still will not stay runing. Whats next?

    Thanks Tony
When I started my car the copper line to the oil presser gauge was against the wire on theballast resistor. The wire smoked and melted in 2 seconds right to the ignition switch. I replaced the wire and now when I start the car the only way it stays running is to hold the key in the start position with the starter engaged. Is the ignition switch maybe fried or did I mess up something else.
I need help with this one.
    Thanks Tony

I replied to your e-mail today but it was "kicked back" as undeliverable. Do you still have the Comcast domain address?

Anyway, the ignition switch is your next shot at it. I think that will likely solve the problem. The problem is, the ignition switch is a lot more expensive and harder to find than the ballast resistor (that's why I suggested ruling that out first). The 66-67 switch is GM-discontinued and most auto parts stores probably won't have replacements. However, most of the Corvette vendors like Dr. Rebuild should have them. Figure about $60-75.
