I'm not clear on what you mean by "skid plate".

As far as "inspection cover" is concerned, I'm assuming that you mean the bellhousing inspection cover (if manual trans equipped) or torque converter underpan (if auto trans equipped). 1988 used one-year-only parts for both of these. The bellhousing cover, GM #10066405 was discontinued without supercession in July, 1996.

The torque converter underpan, GM #10066406, was discontinued in September, 1991 and replaced by the 89-93 underpan, GM #10126478. Unfortunately, that piece is also now discontinued, too, and I can find no supercessive part number.

Thanks joe for the reply. Yes it is an automatic transmission and it is the torque coverter underpan I guess you could call it. When I am looking around for a used one should i only be looking at 1988 year only or 1988 to 1993.?? Have you heard of this item being reproduced.

The first thing I'd try to do if you're concerned about originality is to look for one from an 88. I'm sure there's some difference in configuration between the 88 and 89-93 even though I don't know what it is. If you're primarily concerned about functionality, then I'd just look for one from any 88-93 with auto transmission. As far as I can tell, this is a Corvette-only piece, not used on other Chevrolet models or other GM cars.

I don't know of any reproductions of this part currently being available. The C4 parts reproduction market is still in its "infancy".

Thanks again Joe. The car has been customized so that originality does not matter. I am just interested in providing protection fot the transmission etc. The answer therefore is 88 to 93 (as long as it fits.

There's also a guy in Van Nuys, CA that posts on Craigslist/LA almost daily. He seems to have a lot of early C4 stuff.
